Home Dialysis University for Physicians Course is organized by International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) and will be held from Nov 17 - 19, 2019 at Hyatt Regency Aurora-Denver Conference Center, Denver, Colorado, United States of America.

Target Audience
This course is designed for nephrologists, physicians assistants and nurse practictioners who are active in kidney disease patient care.

Accreditation:
• USF Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 17 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 
• Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 17 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Program Description:
HDU for Physicians is designed to help those providing care to patients to improve current approaches to the initiation and delivery of dialysis, so overall patient outcomes can improve. The course emphasizes the importance of individualization of therapy to meet not only laboratory influenced clinical needs but also the QOL needs of the patient. This educational activity will focus on ways to overcome barriers and include discussions of how these were overcome at other institutions that have looked closely at the problem and tried to find solutions. Didactic sessions, small group sessions and group discussions are utilized to help participants recognize the need for learning and help them formulate an approach they can use in clinical practice. Attendees are encouraged to formulate their own approach based on the medical evidence and experiences of others.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
• Identify and correct the misconceptions that preclude the use of PD and HHD
• Formulate the best approach to PD or HHD dialysis prescription and access placement based on patient type
• Optimize the dialysis prescription in terms of adequacy and ultrafiltration to reduce complications
• Define the roles of the interprofessional team that cares for dialysis patients
• Demonstrate the most effective practice techniques... (of what, not why)
• List at least two factors that contribute to the successful prevention and/or recovery from peritonitis to allow patients to remain on home dialysis therapy
• Design a process to assure PD catheter are placed in a timely manner with minimal complications
• Identify at least two factors that contribute to successful HHD access that to remain on home dialysis therapy
• Increase take-on rate of home dialysis
