Conference Description:
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in women in the United States and the developed world.  New research has identified novel risk factors such as preeclampsia for CVD in women, and pregnancy and hormone therapy uniquely impact women with regards to stroke and heart disease management.

While public health initiatives have increased awareness in this area, there is still confusion among health care providers about risk assessment and treatment of women with heart disease.  Review of the most current evidence based guidelines for prevention of heart disease in women and focused didactics on the most common cardiovascular issues women face will provide a clear road map for medical practitioners to use in their daily care of women in general medicine and obstetric practices.

Conference Objectives:
• Identify surveillance tests and medications appropriate for pregnant patients with heart disease
• Decide when to refer patients to cardiology specialists or maternal fetal medicine/high risk obstetrics
• Analyze the practice guidelines for treatment of women with heart disease
• Identify sympotoms of heart disease in women
• Assess how to risk stratify women using existing calculators and the additional novel risk factors such as preeclampsia.
