Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC) in Montreal is organized by Trauma Association of Canada (TAC) and will be held from Sep 03 - 04, 2019 at Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Course Structure:
Strategic Thinking and Decision-Making Topics:
• Damage Control in Trauma
• Blunt and Penetrating Thoracic Injuries
• Penetrating Injuries to the Neck
• Abdominal Injuries
• Pelvic Fractures
• Vascular Injuries
• Head Injuries
Operative Approaches and Surgical Techniques:
• Thoracotomy and Sternotomy
• Laparotomy and Packing
• Fasciotomy
• Craniotomy
• Splenectomy and Splenorrhaphy
• Liver packing
• Medial Visceral Rotation
• Duodenal and Pancreatic Repairs
• Vascular Repairs
• Cardiac and Pulmonary Repairs
Course Materials:
The course will run for two days with the following course materials:
• A manual and a DVD to supplement the course content
• Standardized Slides
• Practical and technical skill stations
• Patient scenarios in acute trauma surgery
• Practical work laboratories
• Participant members are limited to 20 in DSTC courses with a high faculty to participant ratio, allowing for two faculty members to four participants in hands-on practical skill sessions
Surgical Procedures:
This session will provide hands-on exposure to operative techniques in a small group with a high faculty/participant ratio.
