Comprehensive Regional Anesthesia Cadaver Course is organized by University of North Texas (UNT) Health Science Center Continuing Education and will be held from Aug 02 - 03, 2019 at UNT Health Science Center, Fort Worth, Texas, United States of America.
Accreditation Statement
The University of North Texas Health Science Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The University of North Texas Health Science Center has requested that the AOA Council on Continuing Medical Education approve this program for 10 hours of AOA Category 2A credit. Approval is currently pending.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:
• Identify pertinent anatomy under ultrasound for the following nerve blocks: Interscalene, Supraclavicular, Adductor Canal, TAP, Femoral, and Popliteal Sciatic blocks
• Articulate needle placement for these blocks
• Describe the neuroanatomy of each nerve block and plane block as well as which nerves and/or dermatomes are effectively anesthetized.
• Describe proper dosages of local anesthetic for each of the nerve blocks
• Classify the differences in plane block anatomy;
• Explain potential complications for each of the nerve block, how to mitigate these complications
• Demonstrate proper ultrasound probe placement, movement as well as variance in anatomy while changing probe from one position to another
• Distinguish the difference between linear and curvilinear ultrasound probes and how these different probes can be utilized in various block techniques
• Describe anatomical landmarks for both linear and curvilinear probe placement
• Describe landmark technique for paravertebral nerve blocks;
• Demonstrate proper catheter placement for Interscalene, Supraclavicular, Adductor Canal, TAP, Femoral, and Popliteal Sciatic nerve blocks;
• Measure duration of action of each of the nerve blocks;
• Describe the proper way to assess the effectiveness of Interscalene, Supraclavicular, Adductor Canal, TAP, Femoral, and Popliteal Sciatic nerve blocks;
• Describe the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the different local anesthetics.
Blocks Covered:
• Interscalene
• Supraclavicular
• Adductor Canal
• TAP
• Femoral
• Popliteal Sciatic
