Aseptic Technique Compounding Training Course is organized by Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) and will be held from Oct 23 - 25, 2019 at PCCA Learning Center, Houston, Texas, United States of America.

Accreditation:
Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians completing this program in its entirety will receive 40 hours of continuing education credit (4.0 CEUs). The program is comprised of three parts: (1) Aseptic Technique Pre-class Coursework (20 hours or 2.0 CEUs), (2) Aseptic Technique Compounding Course (17 hours or 1.7 CEUs), and (3) Aseptic Technique Compounding Course – Legal & Regulatory Issues (3 hours or 0.3 CEU)

Course Description:
This application-based course will provide you with the accuracy and quality practices necessary to prepare compounded sterile preparations that meet and exceed the requirements of USP Chapters <797> and <800>. During the 2-1/2 days of highly interactive and engaging activities, you will focus on aseptic process, technique, skill, and practical knowledge in a mock sterile compounding environment.

Hands-on preparation of low-, medium- and high-risk compounds will be performed along with media-fill testing. Learn how to prepare lowand medium-risk level compounds including sterile solutions and manipulation of injectable solutions. Furthermore, you will learn how to prepare quality high-risk level compounds including ophthalmic ointments, intrathecals and oil injections. Attendees will also focus on basic microbiology including discussions on proper gowning procedures, cleaning and disinfection methods and practical considerations of USP <800>.

Learning Objectives:
Pre-Class Coursework: 
• Discuss sterile pharmaceutical compounding including concepts, techniques and procedures P/T
• Perform pharmaceutical calculations involved in sterile compounding including metric conversion, percentage strength and isotonicity. P/T
• Describe the various methods of sterilization, storage requirements and process validation. P/T
• Discuss the importance of quality control systems including environmental control, personnel, as well as beyond-use-dating. P/T
 
Aseptic Technique Compounding Course:
• Prepare sterile ophthalmics, sterile intravenous medica-tions, sterile intramuscular high-risk level compounds including injectables and sterile intrathecal preparations. P/T
• Maintain appropriate cleanliness conditions of horizontal and vertical laminar flow hoods. P/T
• Prepare high-risk level compounds along with media-fill testing in compliance with current USP <797> regulations. P/T
• Explain and discuss the different forms of sterilization and demonstrate selection of proper filter choice. P/T
• Produce and verify sterility of compounded sterile preparations using different sterilization methods, including sterilization by filtration and wet and dry heat sterilization. P/T
• Demonstrate and explain the effects of airflow disruption when working in an ISO Class 5 environment. P/T
• Apply fundamental principles of microbiology as they relate to sterile compounding, cleaning and disinfection practices. P/T
• Complete proper aseptic hand washing techniques and gowning procedures. P/T
• Demonstrate the appropriate placement of materials and hands so that all critical sites receive first air. P/T
 
Legal & Regulatory Issues:
• Assess clean room compliance with the USP <797> Guidelines. P/T
• Describe importance of quality assurance and quality control adoption in the laboratory Policy and Procedure Manual. P/T
• Describe personnel, environmental, and product testing requirements that meet USP <797> Guidelines. P/T
• Assess compliance with State Board of Pharmacy practice regulations for a sterile compounding laboratory. P/T
