Overview:
Review the latest screening recommendations, diagnostic workup and treatment guidelines for anticoagulation, osteoporosis and hip fractures, diabetes mellitus, COPD, and blood pressure for older adults. Discuss the implications of chronic kidney disease in older adults, aging and the oral cavity, lung cancer in older adults, dementias other than Alzheimer’s, and the use of psychotropic medications in the behavioral management of dementia. Outline the components of goals of care conversation, a dizziness evaluation, the new 2019 Updated Beers List, and the most recent important geriatric literature of the last year. Identify the new guidelines for long term care facilities, new technologies for aging in place, evidence-based Interventions for foley catheter blockage, and the social determinants of health for older adults.

The Fall Symposium is a continuation of our Spring Conference Theme - Geriatrics for Primary Care. We have an exciting line-up of topics including anticoagulation in the older adult, new diabetes and hypertension guidelines, what's new in osteoporosis, and a review of dementias. Pharmacology updates will include the updated Beers List and pharmacologic treatment of the behaviors of dementia. Also social determinants of health will be addressed, as well as financial exploitationof the older adult. And practical knowledge in the workup of dizziness, oral cavity care, and preventing long term urinary catheter blockage will be presented.
