Advanced Emergency Medicine/ Next Level Point of Care Ultrasound is organized by Advanced Health Education Center (AHEC) and will be held on Mar 27, 2019 at Advanced Health Education Center, Houston, Texas, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is for Physicians who desire next level training with Ultrasound Guidance Procedures, and sonographers or other health care professionals learning next level Emergency Ultrasound. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Description:
Diagnostic ultrasound has now evolved to become the most cost-effective and efficient procedure in the arsenal of diagnostic imaging procedures. With the rising costs of health care, it is a matter of necessity to utilize cost effective, rapid and accurate ways to diagnose and treat patients at the “point of care”. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has highlighted ultrasound-guided interventions as key implementation of 21st century patient care. This course will address “Next Level” applications of emergency medicine ultrasound and will benefit those practitioners with prior experience in ultrasound.

The power and size of the new portable ultrasound equipment has expanded the application of bedside ultrasound from advanced cardiac evaluation and pulmonary applications to ultrasound guided treatments and interventions. Emphasis will be placed on acquisition of the knowledge and scanning skills needed for vascular access techniques. Ultrasound guidance or localization for abscesses, effusions, and foreign bodies, and integration of point-of-care echocardiography into symptom based evaluation of the patient. The course content is based on ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Imaging Criteria for the performance of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound-Guided Procedures.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the learner will be able to:
• Identify and display appropriate normal anatomy and orientation in the ultrasound field of view for selected topics to include abdominal and chest cavities, the heart, nerves, and peripheral veins.
• Successfully complete emergency medicine ultrasound examinations following correct patient preparation and procedure protocols to include simulated line placements and ultrasound guided needle placements.
• Understand variations in scanning protocols for demonstration of abnormalities and pathologies in emergency medicine exams to include abdominal and chest cavities, the heart, and peripheral veins.
• Identify sources and research reference materials for additional information in critical care ultrasound.
• Explain the importance of self-credentialing in critical care ultrasound, and discuss the importance of record keeping, peer review and quality assurance.
