Course Description :
This seminar has been designed to provide a comprehensive and practical review of a number of important topics in surgical pathology, including gastrointestinal, pancreaticobiliary, gynecologic, head and neck and genitourinary pathology. This course will include an overview of diagnostic pearls which allow for an accurate diagnosis, as well as how to best avoid some of the common diagnostic pitfalls. Much of the discussion will be related to pertinent diagnostic immunohistochemical and molecular diagnostic techniques, which allow the pathologist to refine their diagnosis and provide additional prognostic and therapeutic information. There will be significant opportunity for inactive discussion between participants and the faculty.

Educational Objectives:
• Recognize the major diagnostic pitfalls in the diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus and Barrett's-related dysplasia.
• Discuss the more recently recognized variants of ulcerative colitis as well as some of the issues related to diagnosing IBD-related dysplasia.
• Identify some of the major diagnostic issues in the most common colorectal polyps, including serrated polyps.
• Recognize the most common issues related to non-neoplastic bone pathology.
• Develop an integrated approach to the most common bone tumors seen by practicing pathologists.
• Describe the most common neoplasms seen in the sinonasal region.
• Discuss the diagnostic issues related to squamoproliferative lesions of the head and neck.
• Discuss the diagnostic features of the most common salivary gland tumors.
• Understand the recent advances in the reporting of prostatic adenocarcinoma in needle biopsy specimens.
• Discuss the role of the pathologist in the management of bladder cancer.
• Name the most common epithelial tumors of the kidney.
• Describe the most recent diagnostic challenges in diagnosing and reporting colorectal carcinoma.
• Identify the most important diagnostic pitfalls in pancreatic pathology.
• Recognize the most common forms of gastritis seen in biopsy specimens.
