OVERVIEW

43rd Annual Winter Urologic Forum (WUF) is organized by WJ Weiser and Associates, Inc and will be held from Jan 19 - 22, 2019 at Steamboat Grand, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is Urologists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 14.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

This meeting will summarize for practicing urologists and other interested professionals, new concepts in diagnosis and treatment for conditions including local and advanced prostate, renal and bladder cancer, lower urinary tract symptoms, incontinence, urinary tract infection, reconstructive urology, andrology, stone disease and medical malpractice. At the completion of the meeting, urologists will have been exposed to methods to optimize patient care and maintain patient centricity of care delivery.

The AUA has recently issued an extensive guideline for the surgical management of stone disease and this has not yet been widely disseminated. New treatment approaches to urinary stone disease will be discussed. Next, controversial approaches to stone management will be presented via a series of debates: use of a safety guidewire, ureteral access sheaths, disposable ureteroscopes, methods of stone breakage, the use of post-procedural imaging and the selection of ureteral stents. The session will conclude with a review of the complicated topic of the medical evaluation of urinary stone disease.

The diagnostic evaluation of an elevated PSA is rapidly evolving. Recent publications provide level one randomized evidence that an MRI should be performed prior to a prostate biopsy. However, this is often not covered by insurance and can miss 15% of significant cancer. The pros and cons of this will be discussed. Another diagnostic tool are biomarkers, yet they can be very expensive and the cost-effectiveness of these tests will be addressed. With the recommendations against PSA screening, many men present with more aggressive cancer. The meeting will address treatment approaches to high-risk prostate cancer. Finally, 80% of prostatectomies in the US are done robotically. The complications and pointers to avoid these adverse events will be discussed.

Evaluation and management of mesh complications of female incontinence and pelvic reconstructive surgery will be reviewed, including conservative measures to surgical intervention. We will review the longterm outcomes of surgical intervention for mesh complications in the hopes that this will provide an educated framework for patient counseling and informed consent. Updates on the recent guidelines for the surgical treatment of female stress urinary incontinence will be reviewed. Management of vaginal mesh complications will be discussed as a framework to optimize and education our patients.  Furthermore, we will discuss what we have learned from the mesh controversy from a surgical education perspective.
