2019 Medical Conference: Teaching Oral Health to Medical and Nursing Providers

2019 Medical Conference: Teaching Oral Health to Medical and Nursing Providers is organized by UNM School of Medicine, Continuing Medical Education & Professional Development (CME/CPD) and will be held on Feb 01, 2019 at UNM Dental Services at Novitski Hall, Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is primary care or hospitalist pediatrician, pediatric subspecialist, family or general practice physician, hospital or university faculty, maternal or fetal medicine physician, neonatologist, resident or medical student, nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Conference Description:
The 2019 conference is presented by the Department of Dental Medicine and Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development. The keynote presentation will discuss the UNM HSC project that has successfully incorporated basic oral health practices into an existing medical clinic. Provider roles and tools will be presented.

Conference Objectives:
• Describe how to successfully incorporate basic oral health practices into existing medical clinics.
• Describe the use of fluoride into primary care and successfully apply fluoride varnish.
• Describe basic risk assessments and radiograph interpretation principles.
• Recognize common dental issues and their relationship with pharmacology.
• Perform head and neck exams.
• Describe the relationship between oral health and overall health.
• Describe oral manifestations and treatment regimens for individuals with HIV infection.
• Apply the exams, risk assessments and fluoride therapies to individuals with special needs.
