Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

• Utilize guideline recommendations for the management of patients with COPD in all courses of disease
• Describe treatable traits in COPD
• Discuss the role of endotypes, phenotypes, and biomarkers in the management of COPD
• Utilize endotypes, phenotypes, and biomarkers to aid in personalized decision making in COPD
• Review the rationale and principles for the management of hypercapnia
• Discuss the overlap between COPD and sleep disorders and recommendations for management
• Review common comorbidities of COPD and their impact on patient management
• Identify strategies for the management and reduction of exacerbations in patients with COPD
• Discuss the role of various therapies in the management of COPD exacerbations including bronchodilators, corticosteroids, oral steroids, and antibiotics
• Identify chronic bronchitis in patients who have frequent COPD exacerbations and mitigate effects of the comorbidity
• Describe hyperinflation and principles of diagnosis
• Differentiate available therapies for treatment of hyperinflation including bronchodilators, oxygen, ventilation, and surgical and interventional treatments
