13th AOSpine Advanced Level Live-Tissue Course - Complications Management in Spine Access Surgery is organized by AOSpine Europe and will be held on Sep 20, 2019 at IRCAD France, Strasbourg, Alsace, France.

Target participants:
The course is targeted at neurosurgeons, orthopedic/trauma surgeons, spine surgeons, vascular surgeons, visceral surgeons, residents.

Description:
To provide excellence in spine education, and in recognition of the need for specific training directed at the management of vascular and visceral injuries particular to spine surgery, AOSpine is proud to once again present the live-tissue training course. A carefully selected faculty of the highest repute consisting of access, vascular, general, urological and thoracic surgeons working together with AOSpine faculty will offer the opportunity of supervised live-tissue training on anaesthetised pigs. Max. 34 participants (two participants, one table instructor and one ORP per live surgery table) will receive supervised training on vascular, visceral, ureteral and pulmonary repair techniques. 

Aim of the course:
• In a live-tissue environment (anesthetised pigs), participants will experience:
• The common approaches (anterior) to the thoracic and lumbar spine
• Recognize important anatomical structures relevant to each approach
• Principles in the avoidance and management of common complications
• Vascular repair, selected visceral, abdominal and thoracic repair techniques

Objectives:
• Be able to select the appropriate approach for the type of pathology and instrumentation
• Recognize advantages/disadvantages and limitations of each approach
• Be able to identify and avoid damage to important structures relevant to an approach
• Practical principles of vascular, pulmonary and bowel repair
• Practical competency in assisted repair of the above
