OVERVIEW
Wisconsin Rheumatology Association (WRA) Annual Meeting is organized by Wisconsin Rheumatology Association (WRA) and will be held during Mar 16 - 17, 2018 at The American Club, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is Rheumatologists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Educational Needs :
This meeting of the Wisconsin Rheumatology Association is intended to educate our members on recent scientific advances in rheumatologic disorders. These scientific lectures include updates on axial spondyloarthritis, osteoarthritis and the role of crystals, the science of chronic pain and fibromyalgia, osteoporosis and sessions on advocacy and PBM’s.
These sessions will cover several areas of ongoing scientific advancement in this field of rheumatology. They are intended to educate our members and give them more updated knowledge so that they can deliver state-of-the-art care to their patients. Advances in these areas in rheumatology are moving quickly, and it is difficult for practicing rheumatologists keep up with the latest science. These sessions will serve to provide the needed updates in these arenas.
Conference Objectives :
At the conclusion of the WRA 2018 Annual Meeting attendees will be able to:
• Describe the classification criteria for axial spondyloarthritis and be able to apply them to patients with both clinical and imaging findings suggestive of this diagnosis.
• Identify the treatment options available for patients with axial spondyloarthritis and explain how to select appropriate therapy for specific patients.
• Explain the epidemiology of crystals as they relate to osteoarthritis.
• Describe the current state of knowledge about crystal formation in the joint.
• Identify the destructive properties of crystals in osteoarthritis.
• Explain what a Pharmacy Benefit Manager is and its role in the drug supply chain.
• Recognize why we have step - edits and non- medical switching.
• Describe the rebate system and its affect on patient's access to the correct medicine at an affordable price.
• Identify the underlying mechanisms responsible for chronic pain.
• Identify the most effective pharmacological treatments for pain based on mechanism.
• Determine the optimal manner to incorporate non-pharmacological treatment of pain into clinical practice.
• Discuss the advantages to a rheumatology clinic by utilizing nursing assessments which may not require the complex decision-making offered by the rheumatologist.
• Summarize recent trends in screening for and treatment of osteoporosis in Americans.
• Identify interventions to minimize or prevent declines in bone mineral density/strength after completing a course of teriparatide or denosumab.
• Describe mechanism of action, efficacy and potential side effects of romosozumab and abaloparatide.
• Describe the various levels of participation in Medicare and what those levels of participation mean for physicians and patients.
• Explain the reasons for physicians choosing to opt out of Medicare.
• Outline the required procedures for opting out of Medicare with step by step instructions.
• Discuss the impact of opting out on physician practices and techniques for surviving opting out.
• Identify how to become active on social media and to use it to promote access, privacy and the traditional doctor-patient relationship.
