In general, primary care providers for women are challenged to stay abreast of a large volume of emerging research, to accurately assess its evidence-based, and to correctly analyze its application to the clinical care of women. In addition, they need to be knowledgeable of new therapies and technologies that are changing the direction of care for this patient population. Addressing these gaps in both knowledge and practice will translate to improved care of women and increased patient satisfaction.
The course organizers have selected several practice areas with clinical gaps this educational activity will address. Their evidence for these needs are from several sources including a review of outcomes assessments from other Cleveland Clinic educational activities focused on women’s health, a review of the medical literature, and the professional opinion of the Activity Directors and the faculty presenters. Additionally, national and international efforts are moving to address these issues through publications, journal articles, society meetings, and other symposia. These are all testaments to the continuing need for educational activities focused on women’s health care.
