OVERVIEW
Oral Medicine: Treating the Medically Complex Dental Patient & Oral Pathology and Mucocutaneous Lesions & Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office is organized by LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education and will be held on Jan 19, 2018 at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is Dentists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 7 hours of clinical CDE credits.
Conference Description :
The first presenter Dr. Glick, explains how dentists play an important role as primary healthcare professionals. They screen and monitor patients for underlying medical conditions and render care to an array of medically complex dental patients. As patients become more aware of the emerging oral-systemic connection, dentists need to be able to address patients' questions and concerns and keep up-to-date on the possible effects of oral infections on systemic diseases.
The second presenter Dr. Rosebush will spend the first-hour reviewing oral diseases commonly encountered during dental practice, as well as less common but clinically significant pathologic conditions. The second hour will focus on the many different etiologies, presentations, and management of oral ulcerations including trauma, infections, and immune-mediated diseases.
The third presenter Dr. Arribas, states that although uncommon, medical emergencies can happen in a dental office. He reviews the latest medical emergency guidelines and information for handling emergencies. He explains how some diseases and their treatment increase the likelihood of medical emergencies. He covers that incidence of medical emergencies in dentistry and describes how to prevent, prepare for and manage medical emergencies.
Conference Objectives are:
• Provide a simplified concept on how to provide clinical care for patients with complex medical conditions, and review updated information on the possible effects of oral infections on systemic diseases.
• Diagnose or develop a differential diagnosis for oral lesions based on their clinical presentation, manage pathologic conditions when appropriate, and recognize indications for referral.
• Provide a review of medical emergencies in the dental office and how to prevent, prepare for and manage them.
