Course Description:
This activity will provide an update on oral and maxillofacial pathology and the diagnosis and management of common oral conditions

Conference Objectives are :
• Review oral, head and neck anatomy and common anatomic variations as well as lesions or conditions with site-specific anatomic predilection
• Describe the conventional oral, head and neck examination, including both visual and tactile components; list the physical characteristics of oral lesions that inform the patient record; and describe a follow-up protocol for oral lesions
• Describe common and significant cutaneous lesions and conditions of the head and neck region
• Describe the features of common infectious conditions of the oral cavity, including bacterial, fungal and viral diseases
• List the etiologic basis for oral ulcerations and differential diagnostic considerations ranging from canker sores to squamous cell carcinoma
• List vesiculo-erosive conditions that may present as desquamative gingivitis and describe their diagnosis and management
• Understand the etiology and clinical features of oral precancerous and cancerous conditions and their distinction from tonsillar or oropharyngeal cancer
• Understand the scientific evidence for the use of commercially-available adjuncts in the detection and diagnosis of oral precancerous and cancerous lesions
• List common and significant soft and hard tissue lesions, of the oral and maxillofacial region, including associated radiographic features
• List the indications and clinical settings for the use of cone beam CT (cbCT) in assessing bony pathology
