Medical Review Officer (MRO) Fast Track is organized by American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and will be held from Jul 28 - 29, 2018 at Sheraton Suites Chicago O'Hare, Rosemont, Illinois, United States of America.

Target Audience:
You should attend this course if you are:
• A physician seeking to update or enhance knowledge of drug testing and/or perform as an MRO
• A physician or health care professional interested in developing or improving skills in conducting alcohol and urine drug screening, evaluating results, addressing job safety and return-to-work issues, and interpreting federal regulations governing truckers, pilots, other Department of Transportation workers, federal contractors, and workers in the energy industry
• A physician preparing to take the Medical Review Officer Certification Council’s (MROCC) initial certification or re-certification examinations and needing to meet the MROCC’s CME eligibility requirement.

Designation: ACOEM designates this live activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Conference Description:
Today, physicians in many specialties conduct drug and alcohol tests for business, industry, government agencies, and schools. The need for trained medical review officers (MROs) to evaluate test results extends to more than 20 million Americans. The Drug-Free Workplace Act affects all federal agencies. Mandatory alcohol and drug testing is now required of all intrastate truckers, commercial driver’s license holders, and other transportation workers. In joint government agreements, the United States, Canada, and Mexico also monitor truckers crossing international borders. More than 60 percent of large private employers require drug and alcohol testing. ACOEM has been the educational provider of choice for MROs since 1990. More than 13,000 physicians have completed ACOEM’s highly acclaimed training.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to:
• Discuss the prevalence and impact (epidemiology) of alcohol and drug abuse in the workplace today
• Recognize the physiological effects and clinical signs of commonly abused drugs
• Develop effective urine collection and breath alcohol testing programs
• Implement DOT regulations for motor carrier, railroad, mass transit and other transportation modes
• Perform MRO duties, including verification interviews with individuals whose laboratory drug tests are positive, adulterated, substituted or invalid
• Recognize a potential false positive drug test and when to order a reanalysis or split-specimen analysis
• Address medical confidentiality, disclosure of medical information, and job safety issues
• Review federal custody and control forms to identify correctible and fatal flaws
• Monitor forensic laboratory testing and quality assurance efforts
• Refer employees to substance abuse professionals and treatment/rehabilitation programs
