Medical Physics for Physicists Module 1.3 Basic Course is organized by University of Heidelberg and will be held during Jun 22 - 23, 2018 at University of Heidelberg Scientific training, Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
Course Description:
The advanced training medical physics for physicists provides practical knowledge with a focus on radiotherapy. She combines technical and physical expertise with medical-biological knowledge and thus qualifies you for a future-oriented and demanded profession: As a generalist, you are required to be at home in the basics of medicine and, at the same time, know and apply state-of-the-art technical equipment as a specialist , Through your specialist knowledge, you will develop medical technology for new treatment and diagnostic procedures together with doctors.
The basic module consists of five courses that can be booked separately. All three modules of specializations can be taken independently, but basic knowledge is required.
The courses are composed of two-to-four-day presence units with full-day lectures and internships and online lectures. Depending on the course, online lectures are to be completed in advance or after the course (see date overview ). All teaching contents will be examined in the following presentation unit during a written exam.
Before starting each course, participants will receive a script written in English or German. The language of instruction is usually German. Exceptions are possible (depending on content and lecturer).
Basics:
For a later interdisciplinary professional activity, the basic medical knowledge is an important prerequisite. The contents of the five basic courses are largely independent of each other, but we recommend that you visit them coherently. They include:
• Anatomy, physiology and pathology (anatomy and radiological anatomy of the skull, head and neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis), as well as functions of the individual organs and organ systems of the human body
• Introduction to cell biophysics and insights into selected cellular processes and methods
• Foundations of Statistics and Aspects of Medical Informatics
• Medical technology (medical treatment areas and latest technologies)
• Organizational and legal principles of health care, hospital organization
Aim:
The training is aimed at graduates of physical disciplines and working physicists who already work in clinics, research institutions or in the medical technology industry or want to become active in the future. Also addressed are interested parties who are interested in qualifying themselves through application-specific expertise in the field of medical physics. The Heidelberg course offer is particularly interesting for those who aspire to a specialist qualification in radiotherapy within medical physics.
