Introduction to Transcranial Electric Stimulation (tES) in Neuropsychiatric Research is organized by Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation (BA CNBS) and will be held during Oct 29 - 31, 2018 at The Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 20.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Conference Description:
Transcranial Electric Stimulation (tES) is a method for noninvasive brain stimulation with strong potentiality in the field of medical and neuroscientific research. There are different techniques of tES: Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), was first established in neuroscience research in the 1950’s and 60’s, but has seen a rapid growth particularly in the last 5 years. Other techniques for tES, such as transcranial Alternate Current Stimulation (tACS) and transcranial Random Noise Stimulation (tRNS) have been also developed and been rapidly embraced during the last decade.
Most recently, the novel approach of Temporally Interfering Electric Stimulation (TIES) offers the potential of selectively stimulating deep brain structures. These tES methods provide a varied set of tools for clinicians and researchers. The intent of this 3-day intensive preceptorship experience is to familiarize participants with the fundamentals of the theoretical and practical aspects of tES. The theoretical considerations will include lectures on safety, mechanisms of action, and previous application in research settings. The practical considerations will include sessions on device set-up and parameters for experimental utilization. Regulatory aspects of the use of tES in research, with a particular focus on tDCS, will also be addressed.
