Emergency Medicine: Updates & Current Practices is organized by Harvard Medical School (HMS), Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and will be held during Apr 10 - 20, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital Fireman Vascular Center, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America. The target audience for this medical event is Primary Care Physicians, Specialty Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and EMTs.
Course Description :
This course will cover a vast array of topics, including: Data Driven Care in ENT Emergencies, Disaster Planning: What Works and Why, Oncologic Emergencies, Dermatological Emergencies, Management of Substance Use Disorders in the ED, Emergency Medicine Systems Engineering, The Advanced ABCs of Pediatric EM, Acute Compartment Syndromes, Acute Stroke, Intracerebral Hemorrhage, Pediatric Respiratory Illnesses, Asthma Exacerbations, Global Health in the ED, Approach to the Trauma Patient, C-Spine Trauma, The Irritable Infant, Fever in the Traveler, Chest Pain, Cardiac CT, Eye emergencies, Thoracic Trauma, DVT/PE, Aortic Emergencies, Fever in Pediatrics, Toxicology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Wilderness Emergencies, Elderly Fallers, Tachycardia, Bradycardia, Upper GI Bleeds, Sepsis, Electrolyte Emergencies, Developments in the diagnosis & Treatment of Ventricular Fibrillation, Medical legal cases as well as hands on Simulation sessions and hands on Ultrasound sessions.
This interactive course will include didactic presentations, Q&A, review of cases, hands-on skills stations, problem-solving and other engaging formats. Learners will have many opportunities to develop new strategies they can incorporate into their practice setting. Participants are encouraged to take advantage of evening and weekend opportunities for observer participation within the MGH Emergency Department. Enrollment is restricted to fifteen physicians, in order to respond to the needs of each participant and to allow for individual interaction with faculty members.
Course Objectives :
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Improve the ability to identify patients that are potentially critically ill.
• Assess ways to more appropriately utilize bedside ultrasound in patient management.
• Integrate the latest evidence-based practice strategies in treating patients with venous thromboembolism.
