Conference Description :
This conference is intended for primary care providers, nurse practitioners, family medicine physicians and internists, dietitians and other healthcare providers. The program aims to provide a necessary understanding of the impact of chronic illnesses on bone health and familiarize these providers with therapeutic options including nutritional interventions, physical therapy and pharmacological protocols. The learning format will be didactic lectures with question-and-answer sessions.

Conference Objectives:
After attending this program, the participant should be able to:
• Review the principles of screening, treatment and monitoring of vitamin D deficiency
• Discuss the role of calcium and phosphorus in normal bone growth and development
• Discuss the important role of other vitamins and minerals beyond vitamin D and calcium, such as vitamin K, in normal bone growth and development
• Discuss causes for elevated serum calcium levels, including the role of parathyroid hormone
• Discuss emerging medical therapies for pediatric bone disease, including bisphosphonate therapy
• Describe the evaluation for suspected rickets
• Discuss the diagnosis and management of osteogenesis imperfecta
