The Physical Therapist of rehabilitation specialist is faced with hundreds of special tests. Which one to choose? How does one choose? This course will give the attendee tools to help choose the most appropriate special tests for most commonly encountered pathologies in an out-patient orthopaedic practice. It will highlight the special tests with the strongest evidence and the best diagnostic accuracy. Practice opportunities/performance tips will be given to improving the performance of unfamiliar special tests.
As a result of the course attendees will:
• Name the special tests with the best accuracy and evidence for each of the joints
Perform the above tests and measures with skill
• Verbalize whether a test is best suited for screening or for confirmation of a diagnostic hypothesis
• Give at least 1 example of how test clustering can enhance the likelihood of an accurate diagnosis
• Apply the principles discussed to determine the likelihood of a patient having a disease given a clinical scenario.
