OVERVIEW

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons / American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS)/American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS)/The Hip Society: Meeting the Challenges of Total Hip Arthroplasty 2018 is organized by American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons / American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Will be held from Jul 19 - 21, 2018 at OLC Education & Conference Center, Rosemont, Illinois, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is Orthopaedic surgeons looking for an update on surgical techniques, as well as those who might benefit from surgical tips and pearls to avoid problems in hip arthroplasty. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Highlights Include:
• Preoperative patient optimization
• Matching patient characteristics with implant design choices and optimizing bearing options
• Small group case discussions
• Discussion and demonstration of various surgical approaches including direct anterior (with and without specialized tables), direct lateral, and posterior hip approaches
• Surgical approaches including osteotomies of the femur to facilitate exposure and component implantation
• Planning for outpatient THA

The conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:
• Complete thorough preoperative planning for primary total hip arthroplasty including preoperative medical optimization, stem designs, fixation options and bearing surfaces
• Determine approach options for primary THR including direct anterior, anterolateral and posterior approach to the hip joint
• Improve skills used to perform an extensile approach for revision THR
• Identify and manage complications following hip arthroplasty including fracture, infection, dislocation, and adverse local reaction
• Manage the extent of bone loss and deformity in revision hip surgery
• Formulate strategies for management of the defects on both the femur and acetabulum.
