58th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Respiratory Society (JRS) is organized by The Japanese Respiratory Society (JRS) and will be held during Apr 27 - 29, 2018 at Grand Cube Osaka, Osaka, Japan.

Course Description:
In Japan today, the study of respiratory disease is becoming increasingly important due to changes in people's lifestyle habits and the larger proportion of elderly people among the population. The percentage of the population with bronchial asthma is increasing concurrent with the increase in allergic disorders, and smoking-related conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer are also growing in importance. In addition, pneumonia has also become an important cause of mortality among elderly people, and when pneumonia, lung cancer and COPD are combined together, respiratory disorders become the number one cause of mortality among Japanese people when conditions are considered on an organ-by-organ the basis.

At the same time, dramatic advances in medical engineering and molecular biology are gradually resulting in advances in the understanding of the pathology and mechanisms of various diseases, leading to numerous new treatment methods. Looking back over the history of the discipline, we can see how early pioneers of respirology uncovered the physiology of the lungs, making use of bronchoscopes to investigate what was then uncharted territory. Later on, the use of non-invasive techniques such as CT scans and MRIS allowed us to gain an understanding of the lung's physiological microstructure and pathological changes, elements that were previously invisible to researchers. In recent years, exploration of the lungs has reached the genetic level, with respirology taking the lead in personalized medicine as we look to uncover the true essence of these diseases.
