45th Annual New England Seminar in Forensic Sciences is organized by Colby College and will be held from Jul 29 - Aug 02, 2018 at Colby College, Waterville, Maine, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is Full- and part-time medical examiners and coroners, family practice physicians, police officers, attorneys, and other death investigators. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 25.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
This course provides practical, up-to-date instruction primarily for full- and part-time medical examiners and coroners. Police officers, attorneys, forensic nurses, and other members of the death investigation team will benefit from acquiring in-depth understanding of current standard medical examiner/ coroner daily practices. The seminars are formulated with the intention of providing current and exhaustive coverage in forensic sciences on an annual recurring basis. Thus, the complexity of the topics presented will range from basic to advanced.
Conference Objectives are :
As a result of attending this conference, participants will understand:
• How to develop a report and testify in a cold case homicide when not the original pathologist; problems and solutions
• The most current approach to suicide investigations
• The current approach to autopsies with cardiac pathology
• Investigation and autopsy in fire related deaths
• Discriminate between injuries and their mimickers
• Evaluation of skeletonized remains with animal modification and other artifacts
• Update on the opioid crisis, fentanyl analogs and the Burrage Decision
• New and challenging gunshot wound investigation including utilizing the Ballistic Expert
• An approach to using forensic photography to document scenes, stains and ballistics
• The most current information on pulmonary emboli
• An overall approach to forensic pathology of the skin
• Perspectives on end of life decisions
• A detective's perspective of manner of death and scene investigation
