OVERVIEW
2018 SAOASM Midwest Regional Sports Medicine Workshop is organized by University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) and will be held on Apr 21, 2018 at University of North Texas Health Science Center- MET Building, Fort Worth, Texas, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physical therapists and students with an interest in sports medicine. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Course Overview:
This will consist of demonstrations and hands-on practice. Participants will rotate in small groups through three areas of focus: Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in Sports Medicine; Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Applications in Sports Medicine; and, Joint Injections for Common Athletic Injuries. The last half-hour of the workshop will summarize techniques learned and will allow participants to ask questions and bring cases to the expert panel of workshop instructors for discussion.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of the activity, the partipant should have information that will allow them to:
• Evaluate the benefit of performing osteopathic manipulation after various athletic injuries
• Identify which athletic injuries should not be treated with osteopathic manipulation as a first-line treatment
• Describe osteopathic manipulative techniques pertaining to the treatment of various athletic injuries
• Perform osteopathic manipulation to treat various athletic injuries to the back, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle or foot
• Interpret musculoskeletal ultrasound
• Identify the uses for musculoskeletal ultrasound in a sports medicine setting
• Discuss the benefit of utilizing musculoskeletal ultrasound on athletic injuries
• Describe the use of ultrasound on a human participant
• Perform musculoskeletal ultrasound on a human participant
• Evaluate the benefit of joint injections for common athletic injuries
• Identify the common risks of joint injections
• Describe the use of joint injections on various joints on practice models
• Perform joint injections on various joints on practice models
