OVERVIEW
2018 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ) Health Care Summit: Embracing Inclusion & Diversity in Caring for the Whole Person is organized by University of Virginia and will be held on May 10, 2018 at Boar's Head Resort, Charlottesville, Virginia, United States of America. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 7.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Conference Description :
Professional care providers seek to provide care with respect, dignity, and using the best evidence possible to ensure quality care that’s accessible to all. Embracing diversity and inclusion best supports healthcare experiences that are as diverse as the individuals served. Through thoughtful dialogue and engaging presentations, we will introduce terminology and language, perspectives, and background information about the LGBTQ+ community.
We will also review current best organizational practices for LGBTQ+ patients and associates (employees, physicians, volunteers) and present best medical practices for the specific healthcare needs of the LGBTQ+ population. We invite healthcare professionals, administrators, and public health officials to join together to address common challenges faced by our LGBTQ+ communities across their lifespan. This Symposium is designed to increase knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity among healthcare providers to better serve those within the LGBTQ+ community.
Conference Objectives are :
• Recall differences between biological sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, and be able to define language and terminology that applies to LGBTQ identities.
• Reflect on their own personal ideas, stereotypes, and assumptions related to those that are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer or allied. (LGBTQ+)
• Discuss the concepts and language regarding LGBTQ+ communities with fellow staff, patients, and their families.
• Actively engage in crucial conversations with fellow staff, patients, and families around care needs and the healthcare experience of those that are LGBTQ+.
• Actively engage in embracing a culture of equity and inclusion in caring for those that are LGBTQ+ and their families.
• Increase their awareness of health care providers, community services, and resources that support LGBTQ+ populations
