16th Annual Emergency Medicine Symposium - A Practical Update is organized by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and will be held on Dec 07, 2018 at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles At Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, United States of America.

Overview:
The Symposium is a cutting-edge course that will provide participants with the latest clinical information to support the delivery of fast and accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions. This one-day symposium will cover current and emerging trends in the ED. Program content will include the management of opioid overdoses and detox, the value of pulmonary embolism response teams (PERT), updated clinical information for the managing of the crashing asthmatic, and indications and techniques associated with pacing in the ED. Expert faculty will present evidence-based guidelines for medical clearance of patients presenting with psychiatric conditions as well as postpartum emergencies and new tools and treatments for severe epistaxis.
Objectives:
• Decrease the use of parenteral opioids and opioid prescriptions in the ED to facilitate less opioid addiction and dependence among patients
• Identify the benefits and steps needed to form a PERT and collaborate with colleagues to increase the use of this life-saving strategy
• Develop and implement a strategy/treatment algorithm for critically ill asthmatic patients based on updated guidelines
• Recognize when to pace and how to technically perform transcutaneous and transvenous pacing in the ED setting
• Effectively collaborate with psychiatric colleagues to provide more efficient, effective medical care to patients with primary psychiatric emergencies
