University of Virginia (UVA) 12th Annual Conference of Liver Disease & Gastroenterology is organized by University of Virginia and would be held on Jun 10, 2017 at University of Virginia - Darden Business School, Charlottesville, Virginia, United States of America. Program Description
This continuing medical education course is designed to provide general and community based gastroenterology physicians, physician’s assistants and nurse practitioners an opportunity to learn about and discuss the advances in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with liver disease and luminal GI diseases. Lectures will cover topics on pancreatic cyst management, quality measures in endoscopy, NASH Therapy, anti-coagulation in endoscopy and genetic counseling for colon cancer. There will be two panel discussions - IBD Therapies and Fibroscan vs. non-invasive measures of liver fibrosis and several case presentations on topics such as fecal transplant, viral hepatitis, neuromotility disorders and in- and outpatient hepatology. New this year will be a formal resident poster symposium with presentations of the top abstracts.
Educational Objectives
• Understand the different treatment algorithms for pancreatic cysts
• Determine the optimal quality measures to use in GI endoscopy
• Identify cases in which fecal transplant may be beneficial
• Understand the strategy in using pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies for NASH
• Understand treatment algorithms for the therapy of viral hepatitis
• Discriminate between non-invasive methods of measuring fibrosis in liver disease as compared to fibroscan
• Apply guidelines in the management of anti-coagulation prior to endoscopic procedures
• Recognize the patients who need genetic counseling for colon cancer
• Differentiate different algorithms for inflammatory bowel disease
• Recognize and treat gastrointestinal neuromuscular disorders
• Understand the use of resistance testing in Hepatitis C management
• Determine optimal therapies for the hospitalized liver disease patient.
