Program Description:
There is a paradigm shift in best practices for managing acute dental pain. All dental professionals need to be aware of current recommendations for managing dental pain safely, given the rise in opiate abuse and overdose statistics nationally. Dentists must comply with state and national recommendations regarding the appropriate use of opioid analgesics. In addition, practitioners may need to modify drug selection and/or dosage of analgesics in order to treat the increasingly growing numbers of medically complex patients seen in private practice safely. All dentists must be familiar with how to participate in mandated state prescription drug monitoring programs and how to dispose of unused medications properly.

Learning Objectives are :
• Discuss current state and national trends in opiate abuse and accidental overdose.
• Discuss current recommendations for the use of opiate analgesics for the management of acute pain, including dental pain.
• Identify at-risk patient populations who may require modifications in drug selection and/or dosage of analgesics used to manage dental pain.

Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
