Obstetrical Simulation Course : Emergencies and Catastrophes - Tampa

Obstetrical Simulation Course : Emergencies and Catastrophes is organized by Center For Advanced Medical Learning And Simulation (CAMLS) and will be held during Dec 08 - 09, 2017 at USF Health, CAMLS, Tampa, Florida, United States Of America.

The target audience for this medical event is obstetricians, maternal fetal medicine physicians, OB-GYN fellows and obstetric nurses. It also includes family practitioners who deliver babies, and nurse-midwives. This CME Conference has been approved with a maximum of 13.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Description :
The course will feature didactic and handson team training in shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, eclamptic seizure, maternal code, magnesium toxicity and vaginal breech delivery. Additionally, the course will include didactic and hands-on training on 5 task training stations: operative vaginal delivery, post-partum hemorrhaging vaginal laceration repair, Bakri balloon and B-lynch suture techniques, giving bad news to a patient and her family and appropriate documentation of a shoulder dystocia delivery note. Participants will be separated into groups of 10 rotate through the team simulation on day 1 and the task training stations on day 2.

Conference Objectives :
• Demonstrate essential teamwork principles for optimal management of obstetric emergencies:
a. Shoulder dystocia
b. Post-partum hemorrhage
c. Eclamptic seizure/Magnesium toxicity
d. Maternal code
• Apply evidence-based, best practice guidelines for the use of forceps and vacuum to assist in performing a vaginal delivery
• Perform the technical maneuvers associated with a vaginal breech delivery
• List the indications for and demonstrate the correct placement of a Bakri balloon and uterine compression sutures
• Perform the correct placement of a Bakri balloon and B-lynch suture
• Rehearse in a role playing situation giving bad news or error disclosure to a patient and her family
• Appropriately document the essential parts of a breech delivery and shoulder dystocia note


Nursing Objectives:
• Demonstrate essential teamwork principles for optimal management of obstetric emergencies: Shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, eclamptic seizure/Magnesium toxicity, and maternal code
• Recognize and declare emergency without delay
• Assume adequate responsibility and initiative within scope of practice
• Demonstrate familiarity with the basic concepts of crisis management, including: situational awareness, problem-solving, and decision - making in critical situations
• Identify all available resources needed in the provision of patient care
• Demonstrate consistent communication in an organized, complete manner, and ensuring closed loop communication
