Introduction to Interpersonal Psychotherapy Workshop is organized by Albany Medical College (AMC) and will be held on Dec 01, 2017 at Albany Medical College, Albany, New York, United States Of America.

The target audience for this medical event is experienced psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers as well as trainees within these fields interested in developing foundational knowledge of IPT. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 7.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Description:
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is an empirically supported 12–16 session treatment originally developed and validated in the National Institute of Mental Health’s collaborative treatment of depression multi-center study in the 1980s. Since then, over 100 randomized clinical trials have been performed demonstrating the effectiveness of IPT for the treatment of depression, eating disorders, anxiety and PTSD in both individual and group therapy formats. Generally, research has demonstrated comparable effectiveness to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). IPT combines focus and flexibility in ways that make it ideal for experienced therapists to incorporate into their practice. The treatment emphasizes systematic assessment and intervention into an individual’s relationships to facilitate change.
Dr. Warren Wallis will utilize case-based discussion, videotaped demonstrations and mock role plays to assist learning.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
• Understand the theoretical background of IPT.
• Understand the techniques and process of IPT
• Understand the similarities and differences between
IPT and CBT for treating depression.
