OVERVIEW

Harnessing Novel Imaging Approaches to Guide HIV Prevention and Cure Discoveries is organized by Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise and would be held during May 08 - 09, 2017 at Rockville, Maryland, United States of America.

Advances in imaging methodologies have greatly increased our understanding of cellular and molecular interactions in humans and animal models of diseases. Particularly in the HIV/SIV field, novel tissue and non-invasive imaging coupled with quantitative analysis has revealed key insights into mucosal viral transmission, local and systemic virus spread, host-viral dynamics, chronic inflammation/immune activation and the resultant immunopathology that drives disease progression to name a few. Imaging technologies, supplemented with high throughput immunoassays, could provide critical information for the development of vaccines needed to elicit broadly

neutralizing antibodies in key tissue compartments as well as for the discovery of novel targets for immuno-therapies aiming to strengthen the effector arms of the immune system in virus eradication strategies.

In recent years we have witnessed the unprecedented development of imaging technologies at multiple levels. The goal of this imaging workshop is to bring imaging experts from inside and outside the HIV/SIV field together to discuss the strengths, limitations and applications of emerging imaging technologies that can be applied in HIV/SIV research, as well as to foster collaboration and accelerate scientific advances in vaccine development and cure research.
