OVERVIEW
Caring for Kids With Cancer Symposium is organized by Baptist Health South Florida and will be held during Dec 08 - 09, 2017 at Hilton Miami Airport, Miami, Florida, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is Pediatricians, Pediatric Oncologists, Hematologists/Oncologists, Infectious Disease Pediatricians, Pediatric General Internists, Family Physicians, Neonatologists, ED Physicians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Nurses, Social Workers, Respiratory Therapists, Radiation Technologists, Dieticians, Pharmacists, Clinical Lab Personnel and all interested healthcare providers who care for children with cancer. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
This day-and-a-half symposium will highlight a spectrum of new developments and innovative advances in current pediatric oncology practice including proton therapy and immunotherapy. Content is equally relevant to the general pediatrician. The faculty including leading experts from the top local and national cancer care institutions will review the latest technologies and therapeutic approaches to challenging clinical problems, and will focus on evidence-based approaches to the special physical, emotional and psychological needs of pediatric cancer patients and their families.
Working in partnership to provide the best possible care for the communities they serve, two local leaders in healthcare Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida, the area's largest, not-for-profit healthcare provider, and nonprofit Nicklaus Children's Hospital, part of Miami Children's Health System and the leading provider of children's healthcare services in South Florida are collaborating to improve healthcare through continuing education.
Conference Objectives :
• Identify the most common pediatric brain tumors, their clinical manifestations and genetic causes.
• Explain the difference in chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy for pediatric brain tumors.
• List the classifications of new molecular brain tumors.
• Explain the biology, rationale and pre-clinical development of chimeric antigen receptors (CAR T) cells.
• Assess the current results using CAR T cells for relapsed/refractory B-ALL.
• Describe the future application of CAR T cells in cancer immunotherapy.
• Explain how nutrients can work at different levels of carcinogenesis to decrease the risk of cancer.
• Implement a nutrition plan as part of a comprehensive cancer treatment plan.
• Identify signs of and recommendations for treating malnutrition in a cancer treatment setting.
• Explore recent discoveries in genetics and molecular biology specific to neuroblastoma and implement treatment recommendations in the management of patients with neuroblastoma.
• Implement immunotherapy into the management of high-risk patients with neuroblastoma.
• Identify when to initiate legal action in the clinical decision-making process for a pediatric patient.
• Discuss the concept of genomics in pediatrics.
• Analyze the relationship between genomics and pediatric malignancies.
• Explain the contribution of genomics to improving cancer survival.
• Explain appropriate implementation of proton therapy.
• Summarize the mechanistic basis for understanding how proton therapy may be the best option in several pediatric oncology situations.
• Discuss the incidence of specific late adverse effects on children treated with radiation therapy.
• Examine the dosimetric and clinical evidence supporting the use of proton therapy in children.
• Implement strategies that mitigate the adverse effects of radiotherapy-related toxicities impacting quality of life and overall functional status for pediatric survivors.
