Advanced Life Support (ALS2) Provider Course 2017

Advanced Life Support (ALS2) Provider Course is organized by The Alfred Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and would be held during Nov 27 - 28, 2017 at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The target audience for this medical event for healthcare professionals.

Conference Description :
This two day internationally accredited course has been developed to standardise the teaching of cardiac arrest and resuscitation management. The ALS2 course consists of lectures, practical workshops and cardiac arrest scenarios, providing the opportunity to practice skills and apply knowledge. The course will emphasise the importance of teamwork prior to safe transfer into a critical care environment. Basic Life Support skills will be assessed during the course and competency in this is expected prior to attending. While the course covers advanced resuscitation skills it is also designed to develop leadership and team skills in managing such emergencies.

This course is jointly accredited by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

To obtain an ALS2 certification, participants must meet the continual assessment requirements throughout the course and on the afternoon of day two satisfactorily manage a simulated cardiac arrest (practical assessment) and complete the post course MCQ.

On successful completion of the course the ARC will issue a plastic provider card which is valid for four years from the date of the course.

Conference Objectives are :
• Understand the causes of cardiorespiratory arrest in adults.
• Identify patients at risk of cardiorespiratory arrest.
• Identify and treat acute coronary syndromes.
• Practice and demonstrate the techniques for airway management in a simulated environment.
• Identify the main cardiac rhythms associated with cardiac arrest.
• Identify the indications for defibrillation and demonstrate safe defibrillation in a simulated environment.
• Use various emergency drugs in the appropriate clinical settings.
• Practice and demonstrate transcutaneous cardiac pacing in a simulated environment.
