Conference Objectives:
At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

• Review the indications, pros and cons and the patient perspective of lung transplantation.
• Discuss biophysical sequelae of mechanical ventilation.
• Explain the complexity of the mammalian lung and the highly nuanced management strategies of mechanical ventilation.
• Cite the theoretical advantages and improved patient safety of high frequency oscillatory ventilation in the setting of PARDS.
• Review the evidence of how compassion is necessary for optimizing therapeutic outcomes in our patients.
