We are pleased to invite you to attend the 41st International USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium. The theme of this year’s symposium will be: “Challenges and Triumphs”. The concept is that scientific and clinical advancements have achieved a number of significant triumphs, which have changed clinical practice. An example of such triumph is osseointegration, which has revolutionized the clinical practice of dentistry. Other advances include the availability of: advanced scaffolds as substitutes for bone and tissue, growth factors and insghts into the biologic process of wound healing, refined surgical techniques and protocols, 3D imaging technologies, digital tools for surgical and prosthetic treatment, etc. On the other hand, significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges remain in our field that require further research and innovation. Some of the unresolved challenges include limitations in: markers for assessment of periodontal and peri-implant disease susceptibility and progression, periodontal and peri-implant regenerative capacity, post-extraction alveolar bone remodeling, length of time required for tissue regeneration, prosthetic material. A panel of internationally renowned experts will examine many common clinical beliefs and determine their validity. The program boasts five days with a diverse range of educational opportunities. In addition to the two-days of general sessions, there are seven hands-on workshops, including four cadaver workshops and seven model workshops. Although the majority of the general-session presentations are interdisciplinary in nature, there are also sessions designated as “Surgical Track”, “Restorative Track” and “Dental Hygiene Forum” that focus on specific disciplines. The program is sure to inspire you and provide material, which are very germane to clinical practice.
