OVERVIEW

This course is designed to cover the essential points of Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery. The Course outline will include the essentials in Pediatric care and is designed to fortify existing care and to introduce current techniques and trends. The format will also include the management of secondary management which is more likely in the Pediatric population. The course will adhere to the AO Principles of fixation and early restoration of function in addition to the management of soft tissue. The role of adjunctive non-operative treatments will also be presented.

Learning Objectives :
At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to :
• Describe the treatment of cleft lip including secondary procedures
• Identify techniques in cleft palate repair in addition to osseous surgery and fixation
• Describe how Distraction Osteogenesis has advantages over direct bone surgery and how it differs in the mandible and midface
• Discuss the treatment of Pediatric mandible fractures and the role for secondary treatment such as hardware removal
• Describe soft tissue management and the timing of secondary treatments
• Describe osseous treatment and fixation techniques for craniosynostosis
• Identify treatment options for vascular malformations and facial nerve deficit
