Dialysis Care Quality Improvement

Due to high mortality rate of the ESRD patient population receiving dialysis, quality improvement has long been a priority. While beneficiaries of ESRD treatment constitute only 1.3% of the Medicare population, they account for an estimated 7.5% of Medicare spending, costing the United States over $20 billion per year.

To help tackle this, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has introduced the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Quality Incentive Program (QIP) to promote high-quality services in outpatient dialysis facilities treating patients with ESRD. This program will reduce payments by up to 2% to ESRD facilities that do not meet performance standards.

With the conference being held in January 2016, it is perfectly timed to address the challenges of meeting performance standards within the ESRD QIP both now and into the future.
