This interactive CME accredited activity is designed for the entire CF treatment team. The activity is designed to address evidence-based treatment approaches for minimizing and managing pulmonary infection in cystic fibrosis. Family and patient counseling strategies as well as issues related to transitioning into adulthood will be explored with the goal of improving patient adherence as well as individual health outcomes. The curriculum for the Clinical Insights activities is being developed with Pamela L. Zeitlin, MD, PhD, Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Co-Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Pediatric Clinics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. The funding support is provided by an independent educational grant from Gilead Sciences Medical Affairs.
Objectives :
As a result of attending this activity, participants will be able to:
. Anticipate and address patient concerns with regard to treatment burden.
. Use efficacy and safety data to select aerosolized antibiotics for chronic suppression.
. Recognize the benefits and limitations of genetic research results in the field of CF.
. Follow standard infection control and contact precautions in every healthcare setting and at every stage in the patient care continuum.
. Transition adolescents to adult patient care while minimizing disruption and maximizing self-care instruction.
. Compare and contrast the possible treatment options for the presented patient case.
