OVERVIEW

Annual Postgraduate Course at DDW - Endoscopic Oncology : The Integral Role of the Gastroenterologist in Personalized Cancer Management is organized by American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and will be held during May 22-23, 2016 at San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, California, USA. You can attend the entire course in both days or in half-day intervals to suit your interests and schedule. This course is targeted for practicing gastroenterologists and other health care personnel managing patients with premalignant or malignant gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary conditions.

This year also the medical conference continues the tradition of providing current, practical information in an efficient interactive format. Integrating evidence-based, state-of-the-art lectures and expert opinion from thought-leaders on the most pressing questions in the field of endoscopy, this course will include ample video cases, expert panels and plenty of time for questions from the audience, all focused on the the evolving trends in endoscopic oncology.

The main focus is on the evolving trends in endoscopic oncology highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary and personalized care of patients with GI cancer and how to integrate that into your practice.

Topics to be covered will include the diagnosis, management, treatment and surveillance options for patients with cancerous or precancerous conditions in an era of precision medicine.

• State-of-the art, evidence-based lectures on diverse topics including pancreaticobiliary malignancies, tumor-directed therapy, advancements in the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of precancerous and early cancerous mucosal neoplasia and much more.
• Video-based case discussions to demonstrate and evaluate diverse approaches to specific cases encountered in everyday practice.
• “Breakout Sessions with the Experts” offer a smaller group format concentrating on how the experts address specific clinical challenges. These sessions will be held at the beginning of the course on both Sunday and Monday.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to: • Discuss the options for colorectal cancer screening, polyp surveillance, Barrett’s esophagus controversies and hot topic quality initiatives.
• Identify advancements in the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of precancerous and early cancerous mucosal neoplasia using EMR and ESD with management of associated adverse events.
• Apply cutting-edge endoscopic techniques to diagnosis and treat complex pancreaticobiliary malignancies and discuss endoscopic means to palliate biliary and luminal obstruction.
• Demonstrate the latest advancements in EUS-guided tissue acquisition, tumor-directed therapy including molecular cytology, fiducial marker placement, intra-tumoral therapy, ablative therapies and treatment of cancer-related pain.
