Description
This continuing medical education conference will update members of the multidisciplinary care team on most recent advances in identification, diagnosis, pathophysiology, management and treatment of a wide range of lysosomal storage disorders. The theme of the course is translation of scientific breakthroughs to the bedside. Highlights include advances in molecular diagnosis of lysosomal storage disorders, promise and pitfalls of newborn screening for lysosomal storage disorders, under-recognized clinical features, and updates on various treatment modalities.
Learning Objectives :
• Improve understanding of the natural history of a wide breadth of Lysosomal storage disorders, including manifestations in multiple organ systems.
• Gain knowledge of scientific advances in treatment modalities including enzyme replacement, small molecules and substrate reduction therapy.
• Identify the technical, clinical, economic and ethical issues in development and implementation of widespread screening of newborns for Lysosomal Storage Disorders.
