41st Annual Kevin Hill Seminar in Ophthalmology - Cornea

Colby College presents its 41st annual postgraduate seminar in ophthalmology. For the past 41 years, the Kevin Hill Seminar in Ophthalmology continuing medical education program has provided stimulating lectures on current, clinically relevant topics in ophthalmology. The internationally recognized faculty are chosen for their technical and teaching abilities. This program traditionally allows ample time to ask questions of the speakers, and the interaction between students and faculty is an important feature of the course. Topics are offered on a rotating basis each year and are chosen from among the major treatment areas in ophthalmology.

The Kevin Hill Course in Ophthalmology will provide a comprehensive update on selected topics in the areas of Cornea and External Disease with an additional session on the management of Ocular Trauma. This course is intended to provide practical, applicable and current information through didactic and interactive sessions with a nationally recognized faculty. The course participants will update their fund of knowledge on important topics including ocular surface infections and neoplasia, management strategies for common corneal conditions, a review of up to date techniques in the management of a variety of dystrophic corneal changes (including both medical and surgical management), as well as refreshing important principles in the assessments and management of ocular trauma, and related conditions, in both pediatric and adult cases. Recent advances will be emphasized and new treatments will be discussed. The overall goal of this course is to provide practical information that can be applied readily to daily clinical practice.

As a result of attending this program, participants will:

•understand current management strategies for ocular surface neoplasia
•develop a practical framework for the diagnosis and management of ocular surface infections
•refine their surgical technique in the management of pterygia
•learn practical management strategies for common corneal complaints including dry eye, recurrent erosions and persistent epithelial defects
•understand the full spectrum of treatment options in the management of corneal ectasia
•become familiar with the latest strategies for managing endothelial dysfunction
•understand management strategies for ocular surface burns
•review strategies for the evaluation and management of ocular trauma and related conditions in adult and pediatric populations.
