The Target Audience for this Medical Event are neurosurgeons and allied health professionals from across the United States who are interested in complex skull base anatomy and tumors, with the goal of improving surgical techniques and patient outcomes. Description
The 3rd Annual Skull Base Anatomy & Open Surgical Approaches for the Neurosurgeon: A Hands-On Workshop is targeted towards neurosurgeons, both actively practicing and those in training, regarding the management and treatment of patients with skull base conditions. Leading experts in the field will come together to discuss the current and future management of the conditions, including both surgical and non-surgical therapies, exploring anatomic considerations, surgical advancements, and pharmacologic options in an interdisciplinary setting. The design is to focus on the future of skull base treatment through a collaborative approach with the goal of improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
Objectives:
• By attending this course, the participant will provide better patient care through an increased ability to:

• Indicate when the anterior cranial fossa approach is useful.
• Demonstrate the exposure of the orbit and cavernous sinus.
• Illustrate the key anatomic considerations for the middle fossa.
• Discuss appropriate cases for the endoscopic endonasal approach.
• Display case studies and illustrate when and why varying approaches were utilized.
• Illustrate the anatomic considerations and techniques for utilizing the retrosigmoid approach.
• Review when the presigmoid approach is appropriate clinically including indications and surgical timing.
• Review when the combined technique is superior to the basic petrosal craniotomy.
Discriminate when and which approach is beneficial for various skull base pathologies.
