This masterclass will provide a practical guide to setting up and running a virtual orthopaedic clinic in your service.
Musculoskeletal problems are one of the most common reasons for seeking health care, with estimates of up to 20 per cent of adults annually consulting their general practitioner. Hospital referrals result in new appointments, treatment plans and further post treatment follow up appointments for outcome analysis.
In 2011-12 there were 17.6 million accident and emergency attendances recorded at major A&E departments. Over 4% of these patients are referred to fracture clinics. A large number of these appointments can be replaced by virtual clinics, both for decision making and outcome analysis. Reduction of new fracture patient attendances of more than 50% and elective post surgery follow up by >90% have been demonstrated.
