OVERVIEW

By the completion of the general session, attendees should be able to:

1. Be familiar with requirements for shoulder and knee MRI from the perspective of the orthopedic surgeon;
2. Use optimized protocols for imaging of the musculoskeletal system, including protocols used to suppress metal hardware in patients with joint replacements, evaluate neuromuscular disorders such as nerve entrapment, and understand the indications for MR arthrography;
3. Understand the MRI anatomy of the elbow, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle;
4. Identify abnormalities of the joints, muscles, bone marrow and cartilage on MRI and clinical correlations;
5. Understand the current concepts and staging of MR abnormalities in stress injury of bone;
6. Be familiar with image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic joint injections;
7. Correlate the imaging findings on MR with arthroscopic fi ndings and understand the surgical approach to common injuries of the meniscus, knee ligaments and shoulder labrum.
