OVERVIEW
Older adults are seeking dental care in far greater numbers, expecting to have the latest innovative materials and technologic approaches available to them. Unique to this population are factors such as variable health profiles, social support systems, and functional capabilities. Oral health findings can also be highly variable whether compounded by a lifetime of treatment or neglect and often compromised by systemic issues.
Recognizing the diverse nature of the elderly and their needs, this symposium will approach the older adult from a practical perspective and include topics that cover many of the relevant issues faced when treating aging individuals. Practice approaches for both the healthy, community-based patient and frailer individuals will be discussed.
