Research grants continue to be highly competitive. Over the past decade, the overall success rate for securing research grants has declined from 33 percent to 19 percent, while the number of grant applications has increased by 72 percent. This trend, as well as the evidence that first-time investigators are less successful in obtaining research grants, suggest there is a need to provide a robust curriculum for the cardiovascular Fellow in Training.
