OVERVIEW

As a result of attending these sessions, participants should be able to use current clinical recommendations, based on best evidence, to more competently:

1. Cite recent updates to the use of vaccines in the recommended immunization schedule.
2. Discuss newly licensed vaccines and vaccines in development.
3. Recognize emerging diseases that are becoming common in the United States.
4. Identify major problems that antibiotic resistance has become and its impact on patient care.
5. Participants will be able to examine various infectious diseases.
6. List “red flag” items in the syncope patient’s history/physical which would warrant cardiac evaluation.
7. Interpret a pediatric electrocardiogram and recognize the most common causes of ectopy and dysrhythmia children.
8. Determine who should be screened for dyslipidemia and comfortably manage patients with abnormalities following current published guidelines.
9. List “red flag” items in the history/physical which would warrant cardiology referral for the patient with chest pain.
10. Utilize the recommended approach to the children with hematuria in the office setting.
11. Review the approach to the child with proteinuria in the office setting.
12. Restate the current recommendation for imaging strategies in children with UTI.
13. State the approach to the child with hypertension.
14. Discuss developmental variations in children's ability to maintain attention, environmental factors affecting this ability and co-morbid conditions of ADHD which can mimic ADHD or make management more difficult.
15. Explain behavioral rating scales, how they can be helpful in identification of conditions and tracking management progress.
16. Distinguish between new and deleted procedure codes from Current Procedural Terminology relevant to providing developmental and mental health care in primary care.
