3rd Annual UCLA Review of Clinical Neurology

The UCLA Review of Clinical Neurology course is designed to provide a comprehensive, yet practical review for neurologists who wish to strengthen their proficiency in core disease states in neurology and enhance their clinical knowledge.

This year, the course is organized to provide attendees with a review of clinical neurology based on core disease topics. Each neurological core topic will provide a summary of the clinical spectrum of the disorders, pathophysiology, etiology, diagnostic techniques and management options. Each lecture will utilize cases and audience response system (ARS) to help the partipants appraise their knowledge and actively engage them in the learning process. Lectures will include a discussion of three advancements made in the last year. A new feature this year, is to provide attendees with patient-centric resources to facilitate patient advocacy and education. Video recordings of patients will be shown as additional tools to exemplify clinical conditions. In addition to CME credit, the activity can be used to satisfy competency requirements for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) as specified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Learning Objectives

. Utilize most current evidenced-based practices to improve confidence in diagnosing and managing major disease states in neurology, including multiple sclerosis, headaches, epilepsy, CNS infections, movement disorders, dementia, sleep disorders, delirium, neuromuscular diseases, neurootology, neurorehabilitation, neuroophthalmology and ethical issues in neurology.
. Discuss neurologic disease in pregnancy and immunocompromised patients.
. Use neurologic testing in an efficient and resource-responsible fashion.
. Interpret and extrapolate data from neurological testings that are related to the patient complaint.
. Identify first-line, alternative and palliative treatments for common neurologic disorders and complaints.
. Identify causes of and implement strategies to prevent injury, ameliorate pain, and diminish neurological comorbidities such as fatigue and pain and disturbances of sleep.
. Recognize key features of the history and examination important for patients and families with neurogenetic diseases, and gain familiarity with the management of inherited neurological disorders.
